Aviel Manlun: Making music in Israel
My name is Aviel Manlun, I am a member of the Bnei Menashe community.
I made aliyah in 1994, from Manipur, India, when I was just two years old with my parents and my older brother. Now I'm 29.
I grew up with my family in Kiryat Arba, but now I live in Jerusalem.
When we came to Israel we were the first in our extended family but now, thanks to Shavei Israel, almost our entire family is here.
In the first Covid lockdown I decided to focus on what I love, which is music. I studied music production at U Music college in Jerusalem. The DJ skills I learned on my own, through the internet.
After a few months of learning, I started recording in bars in Jerusalem. Slowly I also started doing events. I currently have regular gigs at several local bars.
Months ago I decided to embark on a new path and become independent. I left my job (I had worked as the manager of a restaurant in Jerusalem.)
I currently provide DJ services for all events and also provide amplification services, produce parties, and I create electronic music.
