Meir Phaltuel: Relief to Mizoram
Meir Phaltuel, a member of the Bnei Menashe, made aliyah with the help of Shavei Israel in 2014.
Living an observant Jewish life in India is never easy, even today, but for Meir Phaltual and his family growing up, it was particularly difficult. One of nine siblings, he says that his fellow villagers “disliked us and insulted us because of our religious beliefs.” The taunting became so harsh that the family was forced to leave their village, wandering for a time from place to place.
Meir, married to Orit, has five children, and they are living in Nof Hagalil.
Meir has committed himself to Torah study since his arrival in Israel. Then in 2020, Meir started working in the Nof HaGalil Municipality as the Bnei Menashe coordinator. Meir also teaches Torah and ‘mussar‘ in the Kollel Bnei Menashe and also to the community.
He has now travelled to northeast India, where he will stay for 40 days to help wherever he’s needed. He will be teaching the Bnei Menashe in Mizoram, to help in preparation for the upcoming aliyah, plus providing badly needed relief for the community with the refugees of the ethnic violence that have come from Manipur.
We wish Meir a successful trip and hope he can provide some solace to the Bnei Menashe in India.
