‘Between the Stone and the Flower’ screens in the EU Parliament
It was a stellar night in Brussels at the EU Parliament with the screening of Genie Milgrom’s film ‘Between the Stone and the Flower: The Duality of the Conversos’. Followed by a beautiful Moroccan dinner with many thoughtful questions, the exciting new film received an amazing international welcome!
The documentary ‘Between the Stone and the Flower’ is the story of the remarkable odyssey of our dear friend Genie Milgrom as she embarks on a decades-long quest to uncover her Jewish lineage.
Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Genie’s education was steeped in Roman Catholicism, from grade school to university. Despite her upbringing, she carried a persistent sense of disconnection within her Spanish Catholic surroundings. Genie’s story is one of twists and turns, as she confronts the challenging choice to transition from her traditional Catholic family in Spain to embracing Judaism, ultimately opting for an Orthodox path. Her decision sends shockwaves through her family and friends, while her own conviction about her family’s Jewish roots in the Iberian Peninsula centuries prior only deepens.
Her story follows many twists and turns as she makes the difficult decision to convert to Judaism from the midst of a traditional Catholic family from Spain and chooses an Orthodox route for her future.
Together with her husband Michael, an Ashkenazi of Romanian origins, she finally reaches the truth of her family in an engaging film that is not to be missed!
Research for the film was carried out in locations that touched Genie’s Crypto-Jewish lineage such as Cuba. Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands, Cartagena, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Key West and Miami, Florida.
