How far-flung Jewish communities get their matza for Passover

For Jews around the world, having matza for their Passover seder is as simple as walking into their local grocery store. For communities like the Bnei Menashe in northeast India, having matza requires coordination and dedication as the community comes together to bake this unleavened flatbread, which has become part of Jewish cuisine, and forms an integral element of the Passover festival, during which chametz – or leavened bread – is forbidden.

Many of these communities work together, making a project out of ensuring that the entire community’s Passover needs will be supplied.
