New calendar for Subbotnik Jews published featuring great synagogues
What do the great synagogues of Jerusalem, Florence, Paris, Tbilisi, Prague, Moscow and Tel Aviv all have in common? They feature prominently in this year’s Shavei Israel calendar for the Subbotnik Jewish community.
This is the third year Shavei Israel has published a picture-filled printed calendar in Russian. Last year’s calendar focused on prominent rabbis. The year before that, it was the Jewish holidays. Two hundred copies were printed – 100 to be distributed in Israel to the Subbotnik Jews of Beit Shemesh, and 100 more for the main Subbotnik centers in Russia: Visoky, Rodnikovskaya and Ukraine.
The calendar was designed by Shavei Israel’s coordinator for Russia and Eastern Europe, Esther Surikova. In addition to pictures of some of the most magnificent synagogues around the world, there are pictures from Subbotnik Jewish events (along with explanatory text) in both Israel and Russia. And, following the recent fact-finding visits of Dr. Velvl Chernin to Siberia and Eldad Fedorchuk to Ukraine, Surikova made sure to include pictures from Rodnikovskaya, Krivoy Rog and Belye Oslavy.
With the publication of our latest calendar, the only question is: where will Surikova and her team of talented designers take us next year?
